On Sunday 13th December 2020, the UTV PODCAST team set off on completing the 10K Festive Dash to raise money for The AVFC Foundation Charity. Here is how it went.
A couple of weeks after deciding to take part in the challenge, the day came to actually complete it. We were buoyed the night before as more donations came flying in, adding to the generous amount we had already received.
As the sun was rising, Justin was up and ready to go. He planned to walk the 10K. The beauty of The Festive Dash is that it really is open to all – you can walk, run or cycle and do it over a number of days. As a team, we decided to do it all on the same day.
As Justin reached his half way point of the 5K, myself and Luke were just arriving in B6. Our plan was to start at Villa Park and run back home to Sutton Coldfield. We were absolutely buzzing to be back around the ground, and what better place to start than the Holte End – the stand in which we’re both season ticket holders!
Justin crosses the finish line! Well done mate!
Seb, are you up yet? Myself and Luke were going along at a decent pace, galvanised by more generous donations coming in. The weather was shocking – freezing and it was relentlessly bucketing it down. We remained in high spirits and, to be honest, were quite enjoying the challenge – especially as the chat was all about Villa beating Wolves 0-1 the day before!
BOOM! 10K Run completed! The pain on my face is a lot more apparent than Luke’s!
Just as we were crossing the line, Seb was up and on the beach. Seb was also completing the challenge by running the 10K. No stranger to an AVFC Foundation challenge, Seb completed his second fundraising challenge of the year after recently participating in The Big Sleepout – raising awareness for homelessness within our community.
Come on Seb – bring it home lad! Superb effort.
That’s it. Seb brings home the Bacon – excuse the pun!
As the dust settles, we are truly blown away by the generosity of the Villa faithful, who dug deep during the build up to Christmas and the ever changing climate we currently find ourselves in, raising £835 (£1000 with Gift Aid) for the foundation.
Once again, a massive thank you from the whole team for your support!
We were generously donated some fantastic prizes to give away. Everyone who donated was automatically added to the draw.
