What a fantastic night for Aston Villa Football Club, coming from behind at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to record a 1-2 win and handing Premier League debuts to academy stars Carney Chukwuemeka and Jadon Philogene-Bidace.

Goals from, Reguilon (OG) and Watkins cancelled out Bergwijn opener, in front of 10,000 (upset) Spurs fans! LOVE IT!!

Villa fans rating the players are Ryan Mckeown, Justin Hawthorne, Liam Mucklow, James Madge and making his rating debut, Aaron Clark.

Formation 4-2-3-1

Emi Martinez – 8

Surely the signing of the season. Once again a towering presence in goal for the Villans, exemplified by two terrific stops early in the second half to preserve the lead. (Liam)

Ezri Konsa – 7

Not in his usual position tonight, but has played right-back before and he put in a decent performance there again. Made no mistakes and went largely unnoticed. That’s a good sign for a fullback. (James)

Kortney Hause – 9

Another astute and assured display.

Solid in the air again and found himself on the end of several blocks and breakups in the final third. A reliable, but developing individual, Kortney has proven himself to be a valuable member of the squad when called upon & on the back of tonight’s brilliant victory, another consistent output.

Aerially spot on and knows his job well, didn’t disappoint. And I’m sure Dean Smith will be pleased too! (Aaron)

Tyrone Mings – 8.5

Superb return, really showed what he brings to the team.

Marshalled Kane superbly and left him with scraps to feed off. If Maguire is out of the Euro’s, then Tyrone has to be in with a chance to start! (Justin)

Matt Targett – 6

A continuation of a solid season for Targett, by no means the star this evening but not a foot wrong either. (Liam)

Marvelous Nakamba – 8

Shaky first 10 mins and lost possession that led to Spurs opener – could have let it affect his game but it didn’t!

Got better as the game wore on, broke up the play and used the ball very well. (Justin)

John McGinn – 8

So energetic, of course. Had a couple of ambitious strikes in the first half. There were a few misplaced passes here and there, which let him down a bit. But that spin in the middle of the park. Wow! (James)

Jack Grealish – 8.5

Jack was back in the starting line-up, and it’s so good to see!

Playing in the number 10 role, Jack drifted all over the pitch, finding pockets of space and driving at the Spurs backline!

We’re a completely different outfit when Grealish is on the pitch, he links our play so well, holds up the ball and relives pressure – which we’ve badly missed, and sends defenders into a panic when in possession.

Wecome back Cap! (Ryan)

Bertrand Traore – 7

He’s like the luxurious, stylish glitterball – moments of real sparkle & moments of real frustration.

Tonight he had everything but the final detail! Waving his way through a school of Tottenham players, not once but several times, and just unable to find that finesse which we know he has.

A good performance from Bertie, he’ll want to make himself more clinical moving forward and tonight was evidence of that need but we have a maverick on our hands and next season he’ll be devilish I’m sure! (Aaron)

Anwar El Ghazi – 6

Showed glimmers of good interplay with Grealish this evening without any genuine fireworks. A player who can be pleased with his overall contribution, yet there remains a feeling he has the talent to do more. (Liam)

Ollie Watkins – 8.5

Denied a stonewall penalty early on, which was baffling, to say the least. Got his goal late in the first half though, with a very well taken finish.

His movement and pressing were both excellent again, as we’ve come to expect. (James)

Douglas Luiz on for Grealish (72nd minute)

The Brazilian replaced Grealish in the number 10 role and attacked well in the closing stages. (Ryan)

Carney Chukwuemeka on for Nakamba (88th minute)

BANG – What a entrance, so close to a debut goal! 17 years old – wow! Attention will now turn to lifting the FA Youth Cup. (Ryan)

Jaden Philogene-Bidace on for Traore (90th minute)

Also a Premier League debutante, Philogene-Bidace displayed bags of confidence.

Subs not used:

Steer, Taylor, Wesley, Barkley, Elmohamady, Ramsey.

Tottenham: Bergwijn (8)

Aston Villa: Reguilon own-goal (20)

Aston Villa: Watkins (39)
