We returned to action at the Emirates, and the pre-match concerns about how the late loss against Wolves would affect us didn’t take long to emerge!

What a shambolic performance all around, utterly outplayed in the first half, and all we could do in the second-half was not to get embarrassed any more than we already had; the only bright spots were the subs – Bailey and Ramsey.

Dean Smith will have to obtain a reaction very quickly now as the heat will only get more intense the longer this terrible run continues.

No question, that’s the last we will see of 5-3-2 for a long time.

I have been joined by Luke Robinson and Gary Plaza in creating the player ratings.

Formation 3-5-2

Emi Martinez – 7

Massive save from Saka, pure world class.

A terrific penalty saves, let down. I feel sorry for him.

In second half produced a top save again. Luke

Matty Cash – 4

Constantly out of position when playing tonight. He never offered much going forward and provided even less defensively in the opening half. He improved in the 2nd half but was caught in no man’s land when McGinn gave the ball away for the third goal. Gary

Ezri Konsa – 3

He looked all over the place in the first half. The more games we play with five at the back, the worse we look.

Could have easily been hooked at half-time, one of his poorest performances in a villa shirt! Justin

Tyrone Mings – 3

Part of a defence that was run ragged all game! Very poor. Luke

Axel Tuenzebe – 3

Terrible! We had one of our best seasons last season with a back 4. The new formation to accommodate players doesn’t work with the players we have. It’s unfair to put all the blame on the players. Dean Smith needs to stand up and take some of the blame.

Subbed at half time. Gary

Matt Targett – 4

Had a terrible first half like every player. Unlucky to give the pen away as Lacazette was the wrong side of him. He marginally improved in the second, but a night he will want to forget quickly! Justin

Douglas Luiz – 4

Lack of control in the first half, Chasing shadows same for the rest of the game. Luke

John McGinn – 3

Appalling performance. Way off it in the first half. Poor touch poor passes poor everything.

Second half; no improvement at all from him and if anything, he got worse. He gave the ball away with an awful pass which resulted in the 3rd goal. Gary

Emi Buendia – 3

Anonymous all game. So poor. Luke

Danny Ings – 2

Did he play the first half? Missing in action so far, maybe five touches in what was the worst first half I’ve seen since he arrived.

Seem to be available more in the second, finding some space, but White blocked his shot. Subbed, and he can have no complaints. Gary

Ollie Watkins – 4

Another performance to forget from the big forward, improved slightly in the second half. Justin

Bailey on for Tuenzebe H/T – 7

One of the only bright sparks on the evening, looks lovely on the ball and will surely start against West Ham now! Justin

Ramsey on for Buendia 68th minute – 7

Another who looked bright from the bench scored an outstanding goal and his first for the club but will be overshadowed by the poor performance! Justin

ElGhazi on for Ings 77min – 5

Little impact! Justin

#Hergame Too is a campaign set up to raise awareness for the sexism that is prevalent in football, as well as supporting, empowering, and creating opportunities for females involved in the game. The #HerGameToo team are made up of twelve football fans that represent an array of teams across the country, including some that work in the industry who have experienced some sexism in their everyday work. They actively encourage people to speak out about their experiences, whether it be to #HerGameToo, friends or family, or the football clubs involved. We must acknowledge that football has come a long way from the issues that existed historically, however there is still a long way to go.

#HerGameToo are doing great work on understanding and removing misogyny in the men’s game, and are continuing to develop their campaign to make it the most inclusive and accessible it can be. Elevating hard-hitting stories, data and new voices is helping to spread their message loud and clear.

If you would like to show your support for #HerGameToo, you can help by calling out any misogynistic comments you hear or see and give them a follow on any of their socials.
