Game week six, guys! The final round of the group stage fixtures! Who will finish top, and who will join Aston Villa in the knock-out stages?

I’d like to say thanks to all that have followed “Euro Watch” throughout the group stage. If you’re new, great, welcome. I have reported the domestic form of our UEFA Conference League Group E rivals: Zrinjski Mostar, Legia Warszawa, and AZ Alkmaar ahead of each game week.

Let’s get into it.

Website Editor: Ryan Mckeown

This Thursday will see the conclusion of the competition’s group stage. Aston Villa know that a point away at Zrinjski Mostar will see them top the group and secure a passage directly to the last 16.

Defeat could open the door for Legia Warszawa to top the group; they face AZ Alkmaar in Poland. A win for AZ Alkmaar (currently in third place) would see them overtake Legia and claim second place, meaning Aston Villa would top the group regardless of the result in Bosnia.

It’s worth noting that 1st place in the group secures passage into the round of 16, while the team finishing second would have to play a play-off game against a Europa League drop-out for a spot in the last 16 draw.

Two teams from Group E make the UECL form guide; Aston Villa in 5th place, and AZ Alkmaar in 10th – come the end of play could it be AZ Alkmaar that join Aston Villa in knock-out round.

AZ Alkmaar come into the clash with Legia on the back of a 4-1 win at home against Almere City. Goals from the lethal Vangelis Pavlidis (2), Dani de Wit, and David Möller Wolfe solidifying AZ’s 3rd place position in the Eredivisie; twelve points behind leaders PSV.

Despite dominating against ŁKS Łódź, Legia Warszawa only came away with a point against the bottom of the league hosts. Paweł Wszołek grabbing the equaliser for Legia in the 51st minute, after
Jedrzej Zajac opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

Legia occupy fifth place in the Ekstraklasa; nine points adrift of table-topping Śląsk,

As for Aston Villa’s opponents, Zrinjski Mostar they’ve already been eliminated from Group E.

Domestically, they defeated NK Široki Brijeg 0-2 to keep the pressure on league leaders Borac, who they trail by seven points in the Premijer Liga.

You can view the goals from Antonio Ivančić and Nemanja Bilbija below.
