Weekend & Midweek Round-up

Enjoy our comprehensive round-up of all the Aston Villa loan-stars in action over the past week.

Finn Azaz (Newport County)

Tranmere (H) 4-2

Finn Azaz scored a scorcher from outside the box to put Newport ahead by three goals to two. Azaz had already won a penalty for Newport in the 56th minute. Top bins!

Forest Green Rovers (H) Tuesday Night 1-1

Finn Azaz put the hosts ahead after just three minutes, finishing Rob Street’s low cross past Luke McGee. FGR grabbed an equaliser in the 2nd half. Azaz played the whole 90.

Cameron Archer (Preston)

Coventry (A) 1-1

Archer was a nuisance upfront against Coventry with the opposition goalkeeper thwarting him on a number of occasions. Archer would be withdrawn in stoppage time of the 2nd half.

Matt Targett (Newcastle United)

Brentford (A) 0-2

The Shermanator put in another outstanding performance for the Magpies, working hard defensively but also doing his part in the attack too. He would be fouled within the first 10 minutes, which Dasilva was dismissed for. The Toon would comfortably dispatch of Brentford, making it 7 games unbeaten.

Keinan Davis (Nottingham Forest)

Bristol City (H) 2-0

Keinan Davis worked hard upfront, causing the opposition lots of problems. The number 9 put in a fantastic performance for Forest for 74 minutes before being withdrawn for Surridge.

Jed Steer (Luton Town)

Derby (H) 1-0

Jed Steer put in another class performance for Luton and kept a well deserved cleansheet. Derby went close soon after the break when Town goalkeeper Jed Steer turned Max Bird’s goalbound effort against the bar. The Rams started the second half well, but Steer’s top-drawer save proved crucial as the hosts finally began to find some momentum and broke through when second-half substitute Jerome teed up Hylton’s winner.

Chelsea (H) FA CUP 5th Rd Wed night 2-3

Luton lost goalkeeper Jed Steer to an ankle injury after only 14 minutes. Speedy recovery, Jed.

Conor Hourihane (Sheffield United)

Millwall (A) 1-0

Conor Hourihane started for Sheffield United and played well in the central of midfield. He was withdrawn in the 87th minute for John Fleck. United would lose by a goal to nil.

Aaron Ramsey (Cheltenham Town)

Crewe (H) 1-2

Kaine Kesler-Hayden (MK Dons)

Bolton (H) 2-0

Kaine Kesler-Hayden made the Sky Bet League one TOTW for the 2nd time in a row. Kaine would grab an assist for the 2nd goal for MK Dons to make sure Bolton was put to bed. Hayden played the whole 90 minutes.

Jaden Philogene-Bidace (Stoke City)

Bournemouth (A) 2-1

Crystal Palace (A) FA CUP 5th RD 2-1

Jaden Philogene-Bidace didn’t feature in either matchday squad. He is currently out on the injured list.

Louie Barry (Swindon Town)

Salford City (H) 1-2

Louie Barry started, putting in a decent qshift down the left flank and played 77 minutes for Swindon Town in their home loss to Salford City. Swindon had won the last 3 games comfortably, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. Barry had scored 3 of those. Unfortunately the winning run came to an end.

My mate, Pug (Swindon Town ST Holder) spoke to me about Louie Barry.

“It was an alright performance from him. You can tell he has a bit of magic about him. He’ll be a premier league player for sure. No mugs in League Two and he’s looking class already.”

Tyreik Wright (Colchester United)

Oldham (H) 1-1

Wright started on the bench and was introduced into the action in the 72nd minute as the teams were level. Wright tried to help his side push on for that all important win, however it didn’t come and the points were shared.

Leyton Orient (H) 2-2 Tues Night

Tyreik Wright was an unused substitute in this competitive draw.

Frédéric Guilbert (Strasbourg)

Nice (H) 0-0

Guilbert was disappointed that his team was unable to take the 3 points in this positional rivalry contest. Fred worked hard and put in another solid display, helping his side keep the clean sheet.

Trezeguet (Istanbul Başakşehir)

Faith Karagümrük (H) 1-2

Trez scored again for Istanbul putting them 1 nil ahead. However, his side would lose 2-1 at home. The Egyptian King was withdrawn in the 77th minute.

Arjan Raikhy (Grimsby Town)

Dover (A) 1-3

Arjan started for Grimsby in the centre of midfield, helping his side establish a 2-1 lead until being withdrawn in the 59th minute due to an injury.

Anwar El Ghazi (Everton)

Man City (H) 0-1

El Ghazi started in the dug out for Everton and was introduced to the game in the 88th minute when he came on for Iwobi as his side trailed 1-0. A late penalty shout for handball, which should’ve been given. El Ghazi had about 7 minutes to influence the game, not enough time really.

Boreham Wood (H) FA CUP 5th Rd 2-0

El Ghazi wasn’t in the matchday squad. He is cup-tied due to his FA Cup performances for Villa.

Filip Marschall (Gateshead)

Telford United

#HerGameToo

#Hergame Too is a campaign set up to raise awareness for the sexism that is prevalent in football, as well as supporting, empowering, and creating opportunities for females involved in the game. The #HerGameToo team are made up of twelve football fans that represent an array of teams across the country, including some that work in the industry who have experienced some sexism in their everyday work. They actively encourage people to speak out about their experiences, whether it be to #HerGameToo, friends or family, or the football clubs involved. We must acknowledge that football has come a long way from the issues that existed historically, however there is still a long way to go.

#HerGameToo are doing great work on understanding and removing misogyny in the men’s game, and are continuing to develop their campaign to make it the most inclusive and accessible it can be. Elevating hard-hitting stories, data and new voices is helping to spread their message loud and clear.

If you would like to show your support for #HerGameToo, you can help by calling out any misogynistic comments you hear or see and give them a follow on any of their socials.
