In a bumper week of Easter fixtures, Matt Targett and Keinan Davis put in solid shifts to earn Newcastle and Nottingham Forest three points.

Louie Barry claimed this week’s Star Player after scoring a second brace of the season Swindon.

Enjoy our comprehensive round-up of all the Aston Villa loan-stars in action over the past weekend.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Matt Targett (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United 2-1 Leicester City

Matty Targett started at left-back for The Magpies and had a decent game. Targett was one of the better players for the home side and worked hard both defensively and in attack. Targett nearly got on the scoresheet himself with a header, and played a crucial role for the whole 90 minutes.

Newcastle found themselves behind after 19 minutes on home turf, but equalised 11 minutes later. A stoppage time equaliser helped lift Newcastle above Aston Villa in the Premier League table.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Keinan Davis (Nottingham Forest)

Luton Town 1-0 Nottingham Forest (Good Friday)

A competitive, hard fought contest was decided by a single goal, a penalty to be exact, between play-off rivals Luton Town and Nottingham Forest at Kenilworth Road.

Keinan Davis started for Forest and the strong number 9 worked hard throughout the match. Davis powered past players, held the ball up at times and tried to help his team regain ground. Keinan was on the receiving end of a few fouls as the opposition attempted to keep him out of the game.

Both sides ended the match with 10 men after a Luton red card and on-loan Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis limped off a couple of minutes before the end, with the visitors having used all three of their substitutes.

There are reports that Keinan’s season may be over with this injury, but we hope to see him back on the field soon.

Nottingham Forest 4-0 West Brom (Bank Holiday Monday)

*Injured 🩹

Cameron Archer (Preston)

Preston 1-1 Millwall (Good Friday)

Cameron Archer had an unusually quiet afternoon in a competitive draw against Millwall at Deepdale.

However, the youngster did have some decent moments in the game and always looked a threat. At one point he played a little dink through to Sean Maguire, who could not get decent contact, and Bartosz Bialkowski smothered the shot. Cameron also had a penalty shout denied when it looked as though he was brought down in the box.

Despite best efforts, both sides had to share the points. Archer managed another full 90 minutes.

Fulham 3-0 Preston (Tuesday 19th April)

Fulham crushed Preston to seal their Premier League return.

Preston started brightly with Cameron Archer and Daniel Johnson linking up to find Ched Evans, who saw his close-range shot take a nick off Tosin Adarabioyo and Marek Rodak was able to claw it away.

Archer didn’t get as much of the ball as he would of liked as the half went on, especially in a dominant first 45 minutes for Fulham. Fulham enjoyed plenty of possession and by half-time the result was in the bag, leading by 3 goals to nil.

North End nearly reduced the deficit early in the second half as Rodak produced another fingertip save to foil Cameron Archer, palming his attempt on to the woodwork. Unfortunately, Archer was unable to get on the scoresheet.

Jaden Philogene-Bidace (Stoke City)

Stoke City 0-1 Bristol City (Good Friday)

*Unused Sub 💺

Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Stoke City (Bank Holiday Monday)

JPB finally returned to action after being sidelined through injury. Jaden had been on the bench for the last couple of games and would start on the bench in this away game at Blackburn.

With his side leading by a goal to nil, JPB was given some minutes. Philogene-Bidace looked lively as he entered the fray in the 79th minute.

Conor Hourihane (Sheffield United)

Sheffield United 1-2 Reading (Good Friday)

Conor Hourihane began the game against Reading in the starting XI at the heart of midfield. Hourihane and his team had plenty of possession without really threatening the goal. The shots they did have were wasted and the keeper didn’t have much work to do. Hourihane was involved for 70 minutes before being replaced by Ndiaye, when they were trailing by a goal to nil.

Reading edged closer to securing their Championship status with a dramatic late victory at Sheffield United that dented the Blades’ promotion hopes in the process.

Bristol City 1-1 Sheffield United (Bank Holiday Monday)

Play-off-chasing Sheffield United battled back to claim a point in an exciting encounter at Bristol City.

Conor Hourihane was on the bench for Sheffield United with the scores level, and was introduced with a minute to go.

Jed Steer (Luton Town)

*Injured 🩹

LEAGUE ONE

Kaine Kesler-Hayden (MK Dons)

MK Dons 2-3 Sheffield Wednesday (Sat 16th April)

MK Dons and Kaine Kesler-Hayden had a horrid half-hour in the first half against Sheffield Wednesday as the visitors ran riot. Former Villan Barry Bannan was involved in all three goals for Wednesday, two assists and a goal as The Owls led by three goals to nil.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden and his side fought back though, and The Dons pulled one back from Parrott’s dinked finish. Kaine Kesler-Hayden started the second half brightly, pushing on for the come-back and showing his glimpses of quality. Kaine was withdrawn in the 76th minute.

Twine’s terrific free-kick was all that the hosts could muster after the break.

Oxford United 1-0 MK Dons (Tuesday 19th April)

Oxford scored a late goal to dent MK Dons chances of the temporary second place slot and the opportunity of automatic promotion.

Kesler-Hayden played the full 90 minutes and tried to muster up an equaliser with minutes to go, but to no avail. Hayden had a right-footed shot from the outside of the box which was blocked. Another opportunity of note was a right footed shot from the right side of the box, which Kaine missed to the left. His side tried to push on but it was little too late and unfortunately they travelled home with zero points.

MK Dons remain in third place.

Aaron Ramsey (Cheltenham Town)

Cheltenham Town 2-2 Gillingham

Aaron Ramsey started on the bench for Cheltenham Town and, after just over an hour, was introduced to the duel as his side trailed by a two goals to one.

Ramsey was straight in the mix of the game and provided the energy needed in midfield to help his team push on for the important equaliser, which they eventually found in the 78th minute.

Lincoln City 3-0 Cheltenham Town (Bank Holiday Monday)

Three goals in the opening 20 minutes were enough to earn Lincoln a win at home to Cheltenham.

Aaron Ramsey started this one, having been on the bench for the last few encounters. The manager slotted Ramsey in an attacking midfield role. Unfortunately, his side had a poor first half and Ramsey was sacrificed.

Ramsey was withdrawn at the interval and replaced by Lewis Freestone as Duff restored his 3-5-2 formation for the second period.

LEAGUE TWO

Louie Barry (Swindon Town)

Harrogate 1-4 Swindon Town (Good Friday)

Louie Barry scored his second brace for Swindon Town, to become the only teenager to bag a brace on multiple occasions within the top four tiers of English football this season.

Swindon totally dominated a one-sided first half as Louie Barry opened the scoring in the 24th minute. The on-loan Aston Villa teenager was left unmarked at the far post to head in Mandela Egbo’s right-wing cross from three yards out. He then added a second on the half-hour mark when he was left unchallenged again in the same position to meet another Egbo delivery, after Louis Reed’s excellent ball through the right channel.

Barry was denied his hat-trick as he fired straight at Joe Cracknell when given a clear run on the home goal.

Louie Barry impressed for 75 minutes before being substituted for Harry Parsons, with his side comfortably leading by 4 goals to nil.

Barry’s delightful display earned him not only a spot in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week, but also a place in the EFL Team of the Week, covering all three leagues.

Swindon Town 1-2 Leyton Orient (Bank Holiday Monday)

Louie Barry set out to continue his form from the last outing. However, he was unable to do so despite still posing a threat to the opposition.

Louie Barry was in the starting XI once again and, with the score goalless, Barry found Jack Payne with a superb ball over the top, but the latter was crowded out and had to settle for a corner. It would be Leyton Orient whom struck first.

The Reds responded well and were heaping pressure on their guests, with Louie Barry warming the palms of Vigouroux with an effort from far out, after the O’s had to urgently clear their lines following another good ball into the box.

Overall, Swindon Town suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Leyton Orient at The County Ground on Easter Monday. Barry would be involved for the full 90 minutes.

Tyreik Wright (Colchester United)

Exeter City 2-0 Colchester United

Tyreik Wright had to watch his side for three quarters of the game from the bench. Colchester were trailing by two goals to nil when Wright was introduced to the match in the 75th minute.

Tyreik Wright was unable to influence a comeback for the U’s and they lost in a convincingly one-sided affair away from home.

Colchester United 3-0 Bradford City (Bank Holiday Monday)

*Unused Sub 💺

Finn Azaz (Newport County)

Newport County 1-2 Crawley Town

Finn Azaz started the game for Newport County, who started brightly with Azaz having a cross/shot from the left of the box, collected by Glenn Morris in the Crawley goal. However, they found themselves behind by 2 goals to nil within 21 minutes.

Newport improved after the break and a swift counter saw James Waite reply. County pushed for a leveller as Azaz struck wide from the left of the area.

Finn Azaz saw out the full 90 minutes. Newport were unable to find the equaliser and suffered defeat at the hands of Crawley.

Sutton United 1-0 Newport County (Bank Holiday Monday)

Finn Azaz had the first effort at goal of the game, with his effort from the right of the box being sent just wide of the far post after eight minutes.

But it was Robert Milsom’s penalty for the home-side that decided a close-fought game with promotion rivals Newport County.

Azaz was involved for the full 90 minutes.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Arjan Raikhy (Grimsby Town)

*Injured 🩹

NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH

Seb Revan (Hereford FC)

Hereford 1-0 Telford (Good Friday)

Seb Revan, a regular starter for Hereford, put in another consistent performance as he helped his side push on for the win. Revan was involved for the full 90 minutes.

A massive three points for Hereford as they look to push for playoffs and got a deserved clean sheet to go with it!

Gloucester City 1-0 Hereford (Bank Holiday Monday)

Hereford suffered a narrow 1 nil defeat on their travels to Gloucester City.

Seb Revan started once again for The Bulls, but was unable to influence his team to get anything out of this close encounter. Revan played the full 90 minutes.

Filip Marschall (Gateshead FC)

Guiseley 0-6 Gateshead (Good Friday)

Filip Marschall enjoyed a comfortable afternoon and a clean sheet as his side dominated Guiseley away from home.

Filip was called upon early in the game as Guiseley pushed for the first goal, but didn’t really threaten the number 1. Marschall commanded his box and enjoyed a day in the sun as his side smashed the opposition.

Gateshead 4-2 Darlington (Bank Holiday Monday)

Gateshead came from 2-0 down at half-time to comeback and score four 2nd half goals.

Filip Marschall conceded after just three minutes from a free-kick from distance. Marschall then had to deal with a penalty 15 minutes later, where he was beaten from the spot.

Filip Marschall then made a massive save on the 25th minute to keep his side in the game and prevent them going further behind.

SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP

Caleb Chukwuemeka (Livingston)

REST OF THE WORLD

Frédéric Guilbert (Strasbourg)

Troyes 1-1 Strasbourg

Freddie Guilbert was on the bench again for Strasbourg as he watched his side from the sidelines. The game was very close between the two French Ligue 1 clubs, but it was Strasbourg who struck first with a penalty.

Guilbert was brought on in the 78th minute to try and prevent Troyes from finding the equaliser. Troyes managed to secure an equaliser after Strasbourg conceded a penalty of their own.

Trezeguet (Istanbul Başakşehir)

Altay 1-1 Istanbul Başakşehir

Egyptian international, Mahmoud Trezeguet scored in Istanbul Basaksehir’s 1-1 draw against Altay Spor in the Turkish Super Lig.

Altay goalkeeper Mateusz Lis’ parry fell to Mahmoud Trezeguet, who tapped home Istanbul Basaksehir’s opening goal of the game.

The goal was Trezeguet’s fifth of the season for Istanbul Başakşehir.

Trez was withdrawn with several minutes to go, only for his side to concede an equaliser in the 89th minute.

Lovre Kalinic (HNK Hajduk Split)

Hajduk Split 1-0 HNK Gorica

The Croatian International and club captain played his part in a one nil victory over HNK Gorica on home turf.

Lovre Kalinic commanded his area well and supported his team on to score the winning goal after just 13 minutes. Kalinic kept a clean sheet.

“We entered the game well, they came out in high pressure, but they did not manage to cause us more serious problems. We had a lot of chances that we missed and this victory could have been more convincing. We are aware that this was not our best game, but the most important thing is that we reached three new points.” – concluded Lovre Kalinic.

Wesley (SC Internacional)

SC Internacional 1-1 Guaireña FC (Good Friday)

SC Internacional dominated this Group stage game at home to Guaireña in the Copa Sudamericana. However, they were unable to capitalise and take their opportunities.

Wesley found space for himself on occasions upfront but couldn’t convert. He had a cross into him in the first half, which his long legs just couldn’t reach. However, Wes got the assist for the equaliser to get his side back in the game in the 2nd half.

Big Wes played the full 90 for Inter.

SC Internacional 2-1 Fortaleza (Easter Sunday)

Internacional came from behind to secure a late 2-1 win over Fortaleza on Sunday.

Wesley started upfront for Internacional in a competitive back and forth contest. The big number nine didn’t have the best of games, as Inter fans pointed out at the end. He was subbed off after 77 minutes.

The win leaves Inter on three points after two games of the Serie A season, while Fortaleza are pointless after two consecutive defeats.
