FEELS LIKE SEVEN- THE GOALS

The First~ Barry’s goalscoring run began at Barrow. Louie Barry’s 66th-minute strike earned victory when his shot from just inside the box thumped past goalkeeper Lillis. The goal secured a 1-0 win and Stockport’s first win of the season in League Two.

The Second~ Barry added his second consecutive goal in a 3-2 defeat at Mansfield. He scored the opener after just six minutes when teammate Will Collar delivered it to Barry on the edge of the box for a low finish into the bottom left corner.

The Third~ Stockport would follow the Mansfield defeat with a 3-3 draw at home to Crawley Town. Stockport took the lead in the 13th minute when Nick Powell found Louie Barry, who turned inside the defender before smashing home with a dipping half-volley from 20 yards.

The Fourth~ Louie Barry not only scored his fourth goal in as many league games for Stockport County, but he also assisted the winner. Isaac Olaofe’s brilliant break resulted in the equaliser as he rolled the ball into the path of Louie Barry, who finished crisply into the bottom corner. Barry then set up the winner as Stockport beat the hosts, AFC Wimbledon, 2-1.

The Fifth~ Barry scored for the fifth league game in a row against former club MK Dons in a 2-1 away victory. Barry cut inside before drilling a fine strike into the top corner.

The Sixth~ Barry made it six-in-six when Stockport battered Wrexham 5-0 on home soil. Louie Barry added the third after a strong run. Barry glided past three challenges in the Wrexham penalty area before drilling it home, becoming the first County player to score in six successive EFL matches since Neil Matthews in 1991.

The Seventh~ He then made it seven-in-seven in a 3-1 away victory over Accrington Stanley when he stepped up to calmly add the third from the spot. The Hatters were two goals to the good when Barry converted the second-half penalty, slamming the spot-kick into the bottom corner, sending Accrington Keeper McCracken the wrong way.

After winning the award, Louie said

“It’s obviously been a great month for me personally, but for the team as well – for us to pick up the points we have done in September has put us in a really strong position, and I’m pleased to have played my part in that.

“I’m loving my time at County right now – the team, the manager, the style of play, it all really suits me and how I like to play. I knew coming here that I wanted to get my numbers up and start contributing with more goals and assists, so to score in seven straight games, breaking the club record – it’s been the perfect start, and hopefully there’s lots more to come. As a team we feel like we’re really coming together and getting better every week, and I’m sure there’s still a lot more to come from us.”

His manager, Dave Challinor, went on to say:

“Delighted for Louie, the award is obviously great recognition for him and his form, but I’m sure he’d also be the first to acknowledge that it’s been a real team effort that has seen us, and him, be so successful over the last month or so”.

“We knew when bringing him into the club what he was capable of in terms of taking on and beating players, and dribbling with the ball; what he’s really added to his game during his time with us are obviously the goals and assists to go along with that now”.

“To break a club record of scoring in seven consecutive games was a brilliant achievement, particularly for someone so young, and the exciting thing for us is that we know there’s still a lot more to come from him. He’s really enjoying his football right now and continuing to improve every week, so long may that continue.”
