Tyrone Mings scored his first goal of the season as Aston Villa claimed the three points with a calm and composed performance against Fulham at Villa Park.

Let’s hear the fans’ post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

EMILIANO MARTINEZ – 6

The Argentinian stopper had a relatively quiet evening, as the visitors failed to register a single shot on target. Claimed crosses decisively and, barring one uncertain moment, passed his way out with composure as ‘Dibu’ collected yet another clean sheet. Picked up his 11th yellow card in his Villa career, nine of which have come in winning causes”.

– Joey Millington

ASHLEY YOUNG – 8

Could Young be a clone? Playing the way he does at 37 is insane. Although Fulham offered very little Young was still a class above. Doesn’t get forward like Moreno but seemed to play a part in every build up in the first half. Second half he showed his defensive side when we sat back and invited pressure from Fulham. Carded and subbed late on”.

– Gary Plaza

Chambers 85′Replaced Young late on and helped see the game out. N/A

TYRONE MINGS – 8

“A goal and a clean sheet from a man that has definitely sent a message to Gareth Southgate. Along with centre back partner Konsa, Mings has been faultless since Emery has come in and that’s been shown in the last five clean sheets. Massive from Mings”.

– Ellis Burnett

EZRI KONSA – 7

Calm and composed as is now becoming the norm. Part of such a solid ‘back three’ with Martinez and Mings – and the ‘playing out’ now seems almost natural. A danger free night for the big Villa number 4 as Fulham failed to muster a single shot on target”.

– Ivan McDouall

ÁLEX MORENO – 7

A typically barnstorming first half display from the full back. Shackled in the second 45, although Moreno stuck to his task against the lively De Cordova-Reid. Replaced by the resurgent Digne late on”.

– Joey Millington

Digne 77′ Came on for the final knockings as Villa closed the game out. Has shown in recent weeks that he can change a game going forward or sure things up defensively when called upon. 6

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 7

As has been his want recently set the tone for Villa’s ball movement which in the first half was largely measured (i.e slow). Once again switches effortlessly between midfield roles and styles. Always an option for teammates. Player of the Year”?

– Ivan McDouall

The standard Dougie Luiz performance at this point. The Brazilian broke up play elegantly and helped to limit Fulham’s opportunities. Luiz has really stepped up in the absence of Kamara and has enabled McGinn to flourish in a more attacking position”.

– Ellis Burnett

LEANDER DENDONCKER – 8.5

“Seems we have a new unsung hero in the team. Does the dirty work others don’t want to. Reads the play so well and helped keep the ball continually ticking over in the middle. Never put a foot wrong again and seems to be a very worthy replacement for Kamara whilst the French star is injured”.

– Gary Plaza

JOHN MCGINN – 8

“An all-action display from the Aston Villa and Scotland Captain. Superb use of his body in the final third; his low centre of gravity allows great protection of the ball and enables those fast twists and changes of direction. Whipped the corner in for Mings’ winner and also went close to adding a second for Villa but dragged his effort just wide”.

– Ryan Mckeown

JACOB RAMSAY – 6.5

“The young midfielder has been in scintillating form under Unai Emery, but like many of his teammates Ramsey was not at his electric best on Tuesday. Still managed to play three key passes and was a threat with his direct dribbling. Will be wrapped up in cotton wool this week after suffering a knock”.

– Joey Millington

Traoré 77′ Replaced Ramsey late on. A couple of flashes of flair but a late Bert special was not needed on this occasion. Booked for a needless challenge. 6

EMILIANO BUENDIA – 7.5

“Was everywhere in the first half tonight. Constantly found pockets of space in between the opposition. Was almost rewarded for this very early on but his effort was well blocked. Fulham’s change of tactics chamged the course of the game so he creativity turned to a defensive press. Some angry words exchanged with him and Ollie which shows just how much they want this”!

– Gary Plaza

OLLIE WATKINS – 6

“A subdued first half perhaps emblematic of Villa’s lack of desire to really push home their dominance. One pot shot from outside the box. Further on the margins in the second 45 as Villa controlled the ball without ever really looking to use Ollie as an outlet. Plenty more opportunities to push for Benteke’s 15 goal mark to come”.

– Ivan McDouall
