Crap.

Aston Villa again limped out of the Carabao Cup at the third round stage. with an uninspiring, subdued, and lacklustre performance.

Words from: Ryan Mckeown

ROBIN OLSEN – 5

“After receiving a poor ball from Dendoncker, a flustered Olsen drilled an uncontrollable ball into Luiz on the edge of the penalty area, which gifted possession to a composed Everton to open the scoring”.

“He had no chance with the second, although he did make several good saves, including pushing McGinn’s goalward clearance around the post, and saving well twice from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.”

MATTY CASH – 5

“Isolated. Cash couldn’t forge any consistent link-ups, having first Bailey, then Zaniolo, and Diaby all play in front of him”.

“Wasteful with his final ball”.

PAU TORRES – 5

“Uncharacteristic performance; very sloppy in possession, with numerous misplaced balls”.

EZRI KONSA – 6

“Another game, another Konsa appearance. The sight of Carlos on the bench could provide Konsa with a well-deserved rest in the UECL next Thursday.”

JOHN MCGINN – 4

“The left-back experiment didn’t work”.

Started well in possession, but once Everton began to dominate, they targeted getting in behind on the left side with Harrison getting plenty of joy; replaced at the interval”.

Kamara 45′: Scored his first goal for the club via a deflection off Michael Keane. 6.5

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 6

“Another surprise starter; but had very little to work with in front, and around him”.

“Fired a volley over the bar as Villa chased an equaliser”.

YOURI TIELEMANS – 4

“Started on the left of midfield, but again struggled to assert himself on the game”

A terrible ball (which summed up his night) sold Konsa short, allowing DCL to score Everton’s second goal comfortably in front of the Holte End.”

Kellyman 78′: Introduced during the last 15 minutes, but a challenging atmosphere to make an impression. N/A

LEANDER DENDONCKER – 3

His only contribution was to put Olsen under pressure with a terrible ball, which ignited the defensive mess that led to Everton’s first goal. He drifted about the pitch like he was refereeing the game rather than participating in it”.

“The lack of game time prior to this game was glaringly obvious”.

Digne 45′: Offered advanced width on the left-hand side, did ok. 6

LEON BAILEY – N/A

“Went off early injured; didn’t really do much prior to that”.

Zaniolo 31′: Flashes of brilliance with an exciting burst through the middle of the pitch before being brought down. Suffered with a lack of cohesion in the final third6

MOUSSA DIABY – 6.5

“Had Villa’s first attempt on target on 52 mins! Drawing a good save from JP.

“Diaby tried to spark the final third into life in the second half and forced Jordan Pickford into a save with an inventive free-kick routine as we chased an equaliser”.

JHON DURÁN – 5

“Fashioned an opening in first-half injury time but fired over summing up Villa’s opening 45”

“Replaced at half-time”.

Watkins 45′: Didn’t make the desired impact. 5

Subs not used: Martínez, Diego Carlos, Traoré, Marschall.
