Aston Villa comfortably sealed a 12th consecutive home victory in the Premier League defeating Luton Town 3-1 on Sunday.

Join me for my post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

Words from: Ryan Mckeown

EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ – 7

Pictured: Emi Martínez

“Emiliano had very little to do throughout the game, which is why he’ll be frustrated to not claim a clean sheet – and have an own-goal marked against his name; fluke of a goal”.

Martínez said after the game on a Twitter post: “Disappointed to concede today. But so happy to get another 3 points at Villa Park“.

MATTY CASH – 7.5

“A very good attacking outlet for Aston Villa, especially in the first half. Cash was instrumental in creating an opening for Watkins to set up Zaniolo, who fired his effort just wide”.

“Also, unlucky not to claim an assist after making a great run in behind to lay the ball on for Watkins, who’s shot in the 6-yard box was stopped by Kaminski”.

Diego Carlos 79′More minutes in the bank after an impressive midweek performance as he joined the back-three for the final 10 minutesN/A

PAU TORRES – 8.5

Pictured: Pau Torres

“Pau’s adaption to Premier League football continues to grow from strength-to-strength”

“In games where teams choose to sit back, Pau’s progressive balls over the top and in between the lines is a useful tool”.

EZRI KONSA – 8

“Unsettled by the presence of Adebayo for Luton’s consolation goal – Konsa’s heavy header looping over Martínez; crashing against the bar; and deflecting in off the unfortunate keeper“.

“Prior to the goal, Ezri was very tidy in possession and comfortably dealt with Luton forward Carlton Morris”.

LUCAS DIGNE – 8

Lucas Digne’s impressive, and consistent season continues“.

“Delivered a sublime cross for Leon Bailey to head down into the path of Moussa Diaby; the latter slamming home in front of the Holte End”.

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 7.5

“Luiz (and Kamara) controlled the tempo effectively, neither having to exert too much energy in this fixture”.

“In a well-executed free-kick routine, Luiz claimed his first assist of the season after sliding the ball intelligently into John McGinn who opened the scoring”.

Denonkcer 90′Very rusty (understandably) as he gave away possession that nearly led to Luton being invited in for a second goalN/A

BOUBACAR KAMARA – 7.5

“A figure of consistency”.

Bouba nestled into the back three comfortably when we built from the back and was silky-smooth in control of the ball.”

Tielemans 79′ “Boosted the energy levels in midfield for the final 10 minutes”6

JOHN MCGINN – 9

“Scored the opening goal, after adding the fourth against AZ Alkmaar midweek.”

“A bundle of tenacious energy throughout, with sprinklings of real quality. SJM had a lot to do to dispatch that well-worked free-kick; he did so with calmness and ice-cold composure”.

NICOLÒ ZANIOLO – 6

“A disrupted build-up to the fixture for the Italian after being quizzed (in Turin) by investigators on Friday over the illegal betting scandal. Despite the disruption – Emery selected him in the starting eleven – faith shown”.

“On another day, he would have scored a brace in the first 45 minutes, narrowly missing the target after being stylishly set up by Ollie Watkins and having his near-post attempt saved by the goalkeeper.”

Withdrawn at half-time.

LEON BAILEY – 8.5

“In the form of his Villa career!”

“He concluded an excellent week with a fabulous performance, including an assist for Moussa Diaby”.

Always available for a pass, he is exciting on the ball, and is displaying an excellent work rate off it”.

MOUSSA DIABY – 9

Pictured: Leon Bailey

“Scored his first goal at Villa Park and what a finish to mark it; a sweet half-volley in front of The Holte End”

“Forced the own-goal with a great cut-back in an area Luton couldn’t deal with.”

Traore 90′ – “Introduced for the final minutes; game was dead” – N/A

OLLIE WATKINS – 7

“Had the opportunity to open the scoring after a wonderful move found Ollie free in the six-yard box; he couldn’t convert on this occasion”.

“Carried a threat throughout, and would have been on hand to tap-in had Lockyer not put it into his own net”.
