A blistering 9-minute spell saw Villa score 3 goals and run out comfortable 3-0 winners against Everton.
Matty Cash and Leon Bailey both opened their Villa accounts in front of an electric atmosphere at Villa Park; Lucas Digne with a own goal sandwiched between the Villa goal-scorers.
Let’s see how the fans rated the boys in claret and blue, joining me today, Alex DeSouza, Justin Hawthorne and Joey Millington.
Starting Line-Up
Formation 3-5-2
Emi Martinez – 7
After arriving back in the country hours before kick-off, the Copa América winner looked like he’d never been away.
Despite their strong start to the season, a Toffees side without danger men Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were wasteful and could not force Martínez into anything more than fielding tame efforts and wayward crosses. But deal with them he did. A solid evening after a hectic morning for the returning number 1. (Joey)
Matty Cash – 9
MATTY CASH! YOU BEAUTY!! What a goal and the catalyst for a electric 9 minutes that lit up Villa Park!
A superb strike – oh, on his weaker foot – superb assist from Douglas Luiz in the build-up!
Very lively throughout the game, full of energy and the 3-5-2 formation really suits his game. (Ryan)
Ezri Konsa – 9
It was a terrific performance from a defender who always seems so decisive in everything he does, essentially he makes everything look easy, which is the mark of a quality player.
Composed on the ball and limited Everton to very little with his positioning. Outstanding! (Alex)
Axel Tuanzebe – 7
A much more comfortable night than last Saturday, easily dealt with Rondon. (Ryan)
Tyrone Mings – 8.5
Bounce back ability” was the tweet from the Villa skipper after a well deserved clean sheet and three points.
The message referred principally to the club’s emphatic return to winning ways after two games without victory, but also portrayed a huge sense of relief after a wonderful individual performance following the disappointment of Stamford Bridge. Mings responded to his costly error against Chelsea with an almost faultless display, with important blocks, interceptions and fearless headers.
He came agonisingly close to finding the net but was thwarted by a superb Asmir Begović save. A captain’s performance after a tough week for the England star. (Joey)

Matt Targett – 6.5
Once again deployed in the left wing back role.
A very willing runner thou his final ball let him down at times; was always trying to get things moving forward but was eventually replaced by Bailey – who lit up the game. (Justin)
Douglas Luiz – 9
Dougie was simply majestic. Even when there were a couple of moments in our third of the pitch where he tried to go past an Everton player and was dispossessed, his confidence was never shaken.
Outstanding throughout the game and was everywhere. When Mcginn came off he played further forward and produced a stunning one touch pass through for Matty Cash to rifle in the first goal. Sensational samba king! (Alex)
Jacob Ramsey – 8.5
What a player this lad is becoming, gets picked by rights and I can’t wait to see what he does next!
Drives forward with the ball, and loves to take people on, his first goal won’t be long coming! (Justin)
John McGinn – 6
Unfortunately, the Scottish international had to be withdrawn early due to a concussion injury he picked up as he followed up Tyrone Mings’ headed effort on goal- Nakamba his replacement on 40 minutes. (Ryan)
Ollie Watkins – 7
Watkins was looking to mark the birth of his new born with a goal, but unfortunately, didn’t get the sights of goal like he did against Chelsea.
However, Watkins is superb in his relentless pressing of the defensive back-line, and never gives defenders a moments rest! (Ryan)
Danny Ings – 8
The former Southampton man has built his substantial reputation primarily through his impeccable finishing, but against Rafa’s Blues Ings proved that there’s a lot more to his game than goals. He set the tempo in the first half, sprinting back to stop an Everton counter and did not stop running all night.
He nearly scored yet another stunner, caressing a strike narrowly over from a Mings knockdown and produced one of the finest assists of the season thus far for the final goal of the day. Ings’ superb vision and technique, coupled with his endeavour and link-up play, was crucial to the side’s victory. (Joey£
SUBSTITUTIONS
Nakamba (on for McGinn, 39th minute) 7
Replaced the concussed McGinn and picked up where the later left off – broke up the play well with an energetic display! (Ryan)
Bailey (on for Targett, 60th minute) 9
A home debut that will live long in the memory of the Villa faithful!
Replacing Matt Targett in an attacking change from Dean Smith, Leon Bailey provided the spark required to break down a resolute Everton!
Curled a beautiful corner in to force Digne to flick home past his own keeper for 2-0 before wrapping up the game with a superbly taken finish to send Villa Park into a frenzy – 3-0! (Ryan)
Young (on for Bailey, 81st minute) 5
Slotted in at wing-back for the closing stages…
Traore (on for Cash, 85th minute) N/A
