Ollie Watkins headed home a late leveller as Aston Villa rescued a point against Bournemouth.

Let’s hear Gary Plaza’s post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

Words by: Gary Plaza

EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ – 9

“Nothing he could do to prevent the opener, but a smart save from Semenyo did plenty for his confidence. A simply breath-taking point blank range save from Solanke followed and showed his class.”

“Awful ball out to Bailey gave Bournemouth their second in his only error today”.

“Another world class save again to deny Solanke. More saves followed to stop us being potentially embarrassed by Bournemouth”.

DIEGO CARLOS – 5

“Awful attempt to find McGinn set the passage of play for the afternoon. It was shortly followed by another dreadful attempted pass, but on the second occasion, Martinez saved his blushes”.

“Thought he’d made up for it, but VAR ruled it out for offside”.

PAU TORRES – 7

“Plenty of progressive runs and some really effort to get the team up the field. Continues to improve game by game with the test of Haaland coming later this week.”

EZRI KONSA – 7

“Still hate Konsa at RB. I think he was placed there to cope with Semenyo, but in all honesty, it just didn’t work. We are wasting one of the leagues best CBs, and it drives me mad”.

“World class challenge to deny Kluivert and keep the score level”.

Cash 74′: Replaced Konsa towards the end of the game. N/A

LUCAS DIGNE – 6.5

“Decent performance and found a lot of good positions when we were attacking, wasn’t always picked out due to some poor passing when well placed.”

Moreno 74′: little impact to note after replacing DigneN/A

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 7

“Not his greatest game, but I think that is because he has set his own bar so high. His desire to command the ball was there, but he just dwindled a little too often on the ball.”

YOURI TIELEMANS – 7

“Always looked to get on the ball and tried to fill the void left by the suspended Kamara. Plenty of energy and some decent through balls.”

JOHN MCGINN – 6

“Plenty of effort without the end product today. Maybe coming off will help him come Wednesday, we’re going to need a McGinn with a full tank.”

Durán 65′: It’s always great to have Duran. He is guaranteed to put some fight into the game. He was so unlucky not to score when his effort was deflected off the post from the edge of the box. 7

NICOLÒ ZANIOLO – 4

“Very poor, really looks uninterested, and spent more time on the floor than on his feet. The investigation into him really seems to have taken more out of him than we realise. Hopefully, we will see the best of him soon.”

Ramsey 45′: It’s great to see Ramsey get minutes in the tank. Hopefully, it will help him get his sharpness back. 6.5

LEON BAILEY – 7.5

“Another great goal from Bailey after being found by Watkins. His first touch was brilliant, and he looked so sharp on the turn. Could we see both Bailey and Diaby against City on Wednesday?”

Diaby 74′: Came on with us chasing the game. Provided a great cross for Ollie to score the equaliser. 7.5

OLLIE WATKINS – 8.5

“In a relatively quiet afternoon for Ollie, he still comes away with a goal and assist. This is what top strikers do. Almost had another assist where his clever layoff found Duran, whose effort struck the post.”

Subs: Cash, Moreno, Lenglet, Diaby, Durán, Olsen, Dendoncker, Ramsey, Iroegbunam
