Aston Villa extended their unbeaten run to nine Premier League games after battling back late on to earn a point against Brentford at the GTech Stadium.

Let’s hear the fans’ post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

EMILIANO MARTINEZ – 7.5

Second most touches in the first half only behind Mings. Great save from Toney at the near post half way through in a half where he showed his class throughout and dealt with everything both as a sweeper and as a keeper. Off at half time due to an upset stomach. Thankfully nothing more serious”.

– Gary Plaza

Olsen on H/T: “Awful, I cannot defend him when they are simple errors brought on by himself. This performance just reassured Emery that a back up keeper is needed in the summer”.

A terrible attempt by Schade was parried back to him, only for him to miss an open goal. That should’ve been the warning we needed”.

He then wanted too much time on the ball and was almost dispossessed by the Brentford attack. This forced the corner where we failed to get our properly and the opener was scored”.

Is there a bigger gap in quality in first and second choice keepers in world football?3

ASHLEY YOUNG – 6

“A disappointing afternoon for the usually dependable veteran full back, who suffered like many of his teammates with a drop in intensity, will be bitterly disappointed with the goal as well; he should have done better when the ball came across“.

– Justin Hawthorne

Chambers 65′: “Tried hard to get forward in what is an unnatural position for the CB, lots of energy in the final stages trying to win the game”. 6

TYRONE MINGS – 7

“Another commanding performance from the Villa centre-half.” Ty defended well and showed good composure on the ball to thread passes through Brentford’s congested midfield”.

– Ryan Mckeown

EZRI KONSA – 6

“Villa’s No. 4 put in a resilient performance against his former employees. The 25-year-old had a difficult task up against Brentford’s main man, Ivan Toney, who grabbed the game’s opener in the 65th minute. Overall, the away side struggled over 90 minutes, but Konsa and his team fought hard to salvage a point and keep the European dream alive”.

– Liam Davies

ÁLEX MORENO – 5.5

Struggled today to get into the game. Mbueno is a top pressing winger and never gave Moreno a moment to think“.

“Fantastic block at the back post to deny Mbeuno an open goal in the one bit of class he showed today Replaced by Digne early in the second half”.

– Gary Plaza

Digne 65′: Digne still offers so much. A more solid option in defence however doesn’t have the attacking intent provided by Moreno”.

Great cameo for the final 30 minutes which included a boot to the face”.

“Got forward well and provided additional support whilst we chased the equaliser. Put in two great deliveries for our goal. The first was cleared but the second found Buendia who put it on a plate for Luiz”.

Could be a potential starter vs Fulham on Tuesday?” 7

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 7

GET IN, DOUGIE!” Scored the all-important equaliser for Villa late in the game! Massive goal. Luiz did struggle alongside Dendoncker throughout the game against a very well-organised and competitive Brentford midfield, but improved when Emery made changes and McGinn came back into the double pivot to support him”.

– Ryan Mckeown

JACOB RAMSAY – 5

Really off day like a few of our team today. One poor effort over the bar early on was his only real action before the break”.

“Improved in the second half and a great covering run to stop Mbueno’s break away was one highlight. However this was followed a few minutes later by such a bad miss from Buendia’s through ball where he blazed over when it was harder to miss”.

He will be the first player demanding more from himself come Tuesday night”.

– Gary Plaza

JOHN MCGINN – 6

Another battling display from Villa’s captain, who had a tough day against both Rico Henry and Bryan Mbeumo down the Brentford right. The Scottish midfielder came closest for Villa in the first half, striking the post after a strike from range. Villa’s number seven struggled generally but came alive when Brentford sat back with 20 minutes to go, and his energy helped Villa over the line for a point in the end”.

– Liam Davies

EMILIANO BUENDIA – 8

“One of the bright spots of an all-around poor team display, he always tried to get on the ball and battled away all afternoon trying to make things happen, showing fantastic composure to set up the equaliser for Luiz. Showed lots of fight and desire as well.”

– Justin Hawthorne

LEANDER DENDONCKER – 6

After last week’s seamless introduction to the side against Newcastle, the big Belgian will be disappointed with his all-round display against the Bees. Sloppy possession and a few misplaced passes ultimately led to his being replaced”.

– Justin Hawthorne

Traore 65′: Thrown on to try and spark the attacking threat for us, but just couldn’t get the ball enough to become a problem for the home side. 5

OLLIE WATKINS – 5

A difficult day for the in-form striker. A lot of the 27-year-old’s play came with his back to goal, rarely having a sniff at goal throughout the 90 minutes. Villa’s number eleven’s best chance came in stoppage time, but the top scorer headed over—a tough day against his old side“.

– Liam Davies
