Aston Villa came from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 and move into the Champions League positions.

Let’s hear the fans’ post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ – 9

“Simply the best, a massive player for the big occasion. Emi pulled off huge saves; the highlight – a double save from Johnson and Hojbjerg.”

DIEGO CARLOS – 8

“First half, he seemed a little off the pace, but so did our entire 11. Like the team Carlos grew into the game and provided so much needed strength to keep out the strong Spurs attack.”

Review from Gary Plaza

PAU TORRES – 8

“Undoubtedly targeted by Spurs’ aggressive press from the off, but the Spaniard dealt with everything well. This felt like a seminal moment for Pau, casting aside some of the doubts about his ability to cope with the aggression and directness from top sides. Should have scored early in the first half, and did score just before half time which gave Villa a platform for a sterling second half showing.”

Review by Ivan McDouall

EZRI KONSA – 8

“Im not a fan of Konsa at RB, simply because it weakens our CB pairing, but it gave the team the ability to settle into a back 5 out of possession. Really given a tough test firstly against a massively improved Gil then the ever dangerous Johnson, I say tough, he dealt with both quite comfortably. He surely has to be the best English CB in the league currently.”

Review from Gary Plaza

LUCAS DIGNE – 8

“Impressive again both in defence and in attack. He’s pragmatic at times – will often choose a corner over anything else but the consistency he has displayed shows why despite Moreno’s fitness Emery is happier to stick than twist. Managed Porro well.”

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 8

“What a delivery for the first Villa goal. There are very few that can play that ball, and I’m glad he plays for us! It was no surprise that we were poor in the first half, and both Luiz and Kamara were kept quiet. In the second half, along with the introduction, we started to really take some control. Yes, Spurs created some chances, but so did we.”

Review from Gary Plaza

BOUBACAR KAMARA – 8

“Spurs players must have been fed up with the French man doggedly tracking them around, getting a foot in and then spraying the ball to a Claret and Blue shirt. Once booked it was clear he knew he had to manage his game and actually emerged further up field as a result. Will be missed at Bournemouth next week”

Review by Ivan McDouall

JOHN MCGINN – 8

“Grew more and more influential as the game went on. Uniquely uses his body to protect the ball, and he was in full flow in the second-half as Villa battled back control of the game.”

RAMSEY 90’: Great to see Jacob back! N/A

Review by Ryan Mckeown

MATTY CASH – 5

“A very rash half from Matty Cash; one he was lucky to see the conclusion of – after receiving a yellow, and committing another foul which could have easily been another booking. Struggled to get a grip of the impressive Destiny Udogie, and was replaced at half-time “

TIELEMANS 45′: Tremendous Tielemans. Unlucky to lose his starting spot in a tactical shake-up but reacted well when he entered the field for the start of the second-half. Youri provided that link between midfield and attack which was missing in the first-half; no more evidential than the superb assist for Ollie Watkins’ winner! 9

MOUSSA DIABY – 5

“Bad touch when given a half chance towards the end of the first half, and that summed up his afternoon. Everyone had a bad first 45, but he’ll bounce back, that’s for sure”

BAILEY, 45′: The introduction of Bailey and Tielemans won the game for Villa today. Every time he got on the ball, he got forward and looked to make something happy. So unlucky not to score when his effort was tipped on to the post. This Bailey is simply unplayable. 8

Review from Gary Plaza

OLLIE WATKINS – 9

“Likes a winner in London. Exceptional finish to a superlative Villa move, having been denied by VAR earlier. In the past much of the criticism levelled at the striker is around being able to ‘rely’ on him to take the chances. Today confirmed he is shattering that criticism. Absolutely crucial to this side and his quality and status will likely mean Villa will remain quiet in the transfer window.”

DURÁN 90’: Saw on the final few minutes. N/A
