One positive; Ollie Watkins is off the mark for the season, but goals from Hojbjerg and a Matt Targett OG either side sees Spurs take the 3 points in a 2-1 win!

Emi Martinez – 8
…not much he could do with the goal, thought Konsa could’ve closed him down, but still a very good finish.
Great save from Kane who tried to beat him from 50 yards.
Made further saves from Son and Kane in the second half. Saving some very poor defensive performances today.

Matty Cash – 6.5
Cash struggled to get forward and influence the game as much as he has in previous weeks, his long throws did cause problems! Justin Hawthorne
Ezri Konsa – 5.5
Certainly not his best game in a Villa shirt as the ever-reliable centre-back was caught out too often throughout. A solid display in the first half was overshadowed by a mistake in midfield that left the former Brentford man almost helpless and with it all to do in a Spurs’ attack that led to the opening goal. A perfectly executed sliding challenge on the brink of halftime broke up a promising looking counterattack for the opponents, which capped a rather average half for the Villa.
Heung-Min Son, who was arguably having his best game of the season, did not do Konsa any favours, as he was involved in a clever piece of play down the Tottenham left that would then lead to the winner. Villa’s number four continued to struggle and could not deal with Kane and Son’s movement in the closing exchanges, seeing them break the line on a few occasions. This summed up a below-par performance for the 23-year-old who will look to bounce-back against Wolves at Villa Park, as he looks to break into the England National team. Liam Davies
Tyrone Mings – 7
Again a pretty average display from the skipper. Didn’t do anything special but did his job well.
He was agonisingly close to winning the ball from Son’s ball through to Moura for the second goal and made a crucial stop in the late minutes of the game to keep the Tottenham lead to just one. Ellis Burnett

Kortney Hause – 6.5
Solid and well worth keeping his place. Baffled how Mings and Konsa stayed on the pitch ahead of him today.
Some decent blocks and tackles but we were out played and out battled today with a lot of errors all over the pitch. Time to regroup and return after the international break. Gary Plaza
Matt Targett – 7
Similar to Cash he struggled to attack as well as he has done of late, his delivery wasn’t too bad when he did though. Justin Hawthorne
Douglas Luiz – 5
Another feisty midfield fight for Aston Villa’s no. 6 was unfortunately one he was on the losing side of this week, in a game where Tanguy Ndombele and Oliver Skipp teamed up to outplay the Brazilian.
From minute one, you could tell the Luiz vs Ndombele battle would be an exciting one and would certainly have a big say on how the game would pan out. Sadly, the Frenchman for Spurs played a blinder and always looked threatening when in possession, as did the former Norwich loanee in Skipp. Luiz didn’t start bad at all, and after some good interplay down the right early on, playing a smart one-two, it looked like it would be another positive display from the midfield maestro. This would not be the case however, with a handful of poorly executed corners, wasteful passes, and silly fouls in the closing minutes, this will be a game Douglas Luiz looks to move on from ASAP. John McGinn – 5
Very poor today. Poor play in giving the ball away for the opening goal. Poor passing throughout the first half but almost redeemed himself with a wonder strike before the break but that was it.
I think I’d go as far as saying thats the worst I’ve seen him play in 3 years! Gary Plaza
Jacob Ramsey – 5
A pretty average performance from Ramsey. The early booking he picked up after a poor challenge against Harry Kane didn’t help his cause as he had to play with caution.
The youngster has had better games for Villa despite showing moments of quality. Ellis Burnett

Danny Ings – 6
A seemingly quiet game for Villa’s frontman this weekend, but to no fault of his own. Service into the former saint was far from ideal, as Dean Smith’s side hit long ball, after long ball forward into Tottenham’s half, demanding far too much from Ings and strike partner Ollie Watkins.
The 29-year-old put in the hard yards, and endlessly pressed the Spurs backline and won the ball back numerously when the lily whites looked to counter. Despite this, in terms of attacking threat, there was very little, and only half-chances presented themselves to the typically clinical attacker. Albeit a tidy piece of work between him and Jacob Ramsey resulted in Villa’s equaliser, where the timing of Ings’ pass into the assister Matt Targett was particularly impressive. Apart from this, a good chance for a first-time effort presented itself to the no. 20 but he dawdled with the ball and Lloris dealt with the eventual shot comfortably. Danny Ings was substituted in the 89th minute for youngster Cameron Archer, and he will hope to do better next time out as he looks for his third of the season for the claret and blue. Liam Davies
Ollie Watkins – 8
Finally Watkins grabbed his first goal of the season after beating both Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris to the ball and smashing it in the back of the net. He loves a day out in North London.
