Pau Torres scored his first goal for Aston Villa as they rallied from behind to draw 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Let’s hear the fans’ post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

Words by: Ivan McDouall

EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ – 6

“Very little to do as Wolves mustered just four shots in over 100 minutes of football (compared to Villa’s 18). Little he could do for Wolves’ goal but will be frustrated at a lack of clean sheets in the league thus far. Quick off his line to narrow the angle as Neto blazed over at 1-1. “

DIEGO CARLOS – 7

“Made absolute sense to bring back the hulking Brazilian to add some ballast to Villa’s rearguard action, especially out of possession. His no frills presence allows others to be more adventurous at the right time. Great to see him playing consecutive games”

PAU TORRES -7

“Rested on Thursday, straight back in here – and rewarded with a key equaliser, and his first goal for the club. Had been at fault for the Wolves goal however – as we have seen in other games this season when forced out wide against pace (Neto, today) he looks vulnerable”

EZRI KONSA – 6

“Another defender who might be disappointed not to have scored as Villa applied pressure near the end of the game. Exudes calm in every game at the moment and kept it simple here whilst managing fairly minimal Wolves threat.”

LUCAS DIGNE – 6

“Always offers willing running and width – despite the fact he has had to play virtually every minute all season. Madness to think there was talk of him leaving – been a key part of Villa’s armory this season”

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 6

“Looked the only non-ponderous Villa player in the first half but the wider malaise seemed to creep in after the break, as he gave the ball away sloppily in a chain of events that led to Wolves goal. Can’t be an 8/10 every week.”

BOUBACAR KAMARA – 6

“Recovered after missing mid week but was instantly hamstrung by a 6th minute booking which changed the way he had to play. That booking arguably informed a lack of tackle in the build up to Wolves’ goal, and when Emery re-shuffled it was Kamara who ended up further forward (as Luiz dropped deep), again to protect him.”

Tielemans 82′: N/A

JOHN MCGINN – 7

“In turn frustrated and was frustrated by Wolves players and staff alike. In the officials’ ear around the constant breaking up of play, but equally running battle with Dawson played a part in that. Fashioned two big chances for Villa as he broke beyond the Wolves back line. Seemed to have played in 5 or 6 different roles by the end as Emery desperately tried to find an answer.”

MATTY CASH – 6

“Picked up where he left off against Mostars in offering an attacking threat early in the game. Would have been disappointed not to add to his goal tally, albeit well denied by Sa, on his 100th Premier League appearance. So well suited to this fluid shape away from home, although faded before being substituted.”

Bailey 82′: N/A

MOUSSA DIABY – 5

“Seemed subdued and just couldn’t get in the game. Has to be a doubt how ready he was having missed midweek due to injury. Hauled off after an hour”

Zaniolo 62′: Made a difference after coming on for Diaby. Full of vim and endeavour, the Italian was clearly desperate to be involved and is willing his first Villa goal. Inches wide late in the game as he connected with a hopeful flick on. 6

OLLIE WATKINS – 6

“Can’t win, our Ollie. Worked as hard as ever but unlucky not to grab a sensational last minute headed goal. Had earlier tested Sa with an improvised finish. And yet still I have read calls for a ‘natural finisher’. So, so important to Emery.”

Subs not used: Olsen, Traoré, Chambers, Lenglet, Durán, Dendoncker.
