Itβs been a dramatic weekend for the WSL. Injuries take star players out; the table takes a turn; Villa lose their first game; Chelsea rise high.
Let’s take a look at all the weekend action.
MAN UTD 4-0 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
Continuing their perfect start to the campaign, Manchester United take home another 3 points without conceding a goal.Β
Ella Toon opened the scoring in the first half for the Reds, scoring two goals in the 14th and 26th minutes and setting up Leah Galton, who scored in the 40′ minute to put the Reds up 3-0.
In the second half Brighton struggle to keep up with the Reds; an abundance of space and unmarked players allowed for an additional goal scored by Adriana Leon on 78 minutes.
The visitors pushed for a goal, Danielle Carterβs shot fell wide, and Elisabeth Terland’s attempt to strike on target was deflected wide by Mary Earps – a sterling save!
Manchester United sit comfortably at the top of table with 9 points. Brighton remain ninth on three points.
EVERTON 1-3 CHELSEA
In the absence of boss Emma Hayes, (who had to take time out for an emergency hysterectomy) Chelsea took the 3 points home.
Pernille Harder made her first appearance for the club this season and successfully converted 2 goals for Chelsea, her first opening the scoring on 37 minutes.
Kadeisha Buchananβs own goal made it 1-1; witnessed in-front of the record crowd of 1,668 at Walton Hall Park.
Harder grabbed her second from the spot on 59 minutes, and Niamh Charles wrapped up the points in stoppage time.
Chelsea sit comfortably in second place in the WSL table.Β

MAN CITY 4-0 LEICESTER CITY
βIt was a vital winβ said Blues head coach Gareth Taylor, and well deserved after holding possession for 76% of the game.Β
Goals were scored by Khadija Shaw 24β and 79β, Lauren Hemp 72β, and Yui Hasegawa 88β – who made her debut.
Manchester City rise to eighth in the table, while Leicester City remains bottom of the league with zero points.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 LIVERPOOL
Tottenham secured their first home win after Niamh Fahey’s own goal.
More than 2,000 fans watched Tottenham dominate Liverpool, which left them goalless
Matt Beard has a lot of work to do after Liverpool’s second consecutive defeat. Despite the best efforts of Ceri Holland, who was brought on as a substitute, and Katie Stengel, who attempted to find the target, it was simply not enough to defeat the hosts.
Will Liverpool get lucky in their next game against Arsenal; they certainly need it as they hold tight onto their three points sitting ninth in the league.
READING 0-1 ARSENAL
Arsenal maintains their excellent record with another three points, moving them to second place in the Super League table.
Stina Blackstenius showed the hosts exactly why they were the deserving winners with a clinical goal in the first-half just thirty minutes into the game!
Kim Little had the opportunity to make it 2-0 with a penalty but Reading goalkeeper Jackie Burns was insistent on the save.
Despite their best efforts, Reading’s Deanna Cooper and Natasha Dowie were denied an equaliser.
Manuela Zinsberger, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, hits a WSL record with eight consecutive clean sheets.
