Aston Villa clinched their second win in succession at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon in what was a comfortable three points for the away side.

Gerrard’s men looked in the mood right from the kick-off, getting an early goal to show for it just before the ten-minute mark when Danny Ings slotted the ball underneath Nick Pope following a sublime Emiliano Buendia through ball.

Burnley had their opening chance of the match with Barnes seeing his shot from outside of the box fly towards goal, but it was never troubling Martinez.

The next chance for the away side came in the form of Buendia who had a shot blocked from outside the penalty area, with the Argentinian pulling the strings and helping Villa stay in full control of the contest.

The home team did come into the game somewhat midway through the first half with Dwight McNeil, Wout Weghorst and James Tarkowski all having chances to restore parity. To Villa’s relief, none of these efforts found the back of the net.

Aston Villa was still in control and found the second goal to solidify their dominance just before halft-ime through a delightful shot from Buendia who scored his first goal since the away success at Goodison Park.

Half-time came with the away team in full control and looking to continue their performance into the second-half and secure the three points.

The Villans began the second half just like they did the first with a chance for a third goal coming early on through Ollie Watkins who had a close-range shot blocked.

Buendia also looked hungry, with the ex-Norwich man looking for his second goal of the afternoon. He had an opportunity just moments after Watkins, but his effort also failed to hit the target.

The third goal looked like a formality with the Villa creating plenty of opportunities.

Villa extended their advantage through an in-form Watkins who glanced his header into the back of the net following a wonderful cross from John McGinn. Three points were now in the bag, and Villa were looking for more.

Matty Cash then had a shot on goal in Villa’s search for a fourth, but Pope produced a good save to prevent the ball from finding its intended target.

The game then went somewhat quiet for a short while after this with neither side having any chances of note to alter the scoreline.

Pope was tested once again with almost twenty minutes remaining through yet another Watkins header but this time he was equal to it and kept the scoreline as it was.

But just as the match was coming to its conclusion, Burnley pulled a goal back through substitute Maxwel Cornet in stoppage time.

The goal came too late to affect the outcome with Villa securing all three points in their bid for a top half finish.
