Emi Martinez – 5
A really quiet night overall for Emi. 100% at fault for the first goal, he decided to take charge of the situation even with Mings on the cover, and if you do that you aim for row Z of the Trinity upper stand not try a pass to your right back.
Penalties always favour the striker so no fault of Emi for that.
Superb save from Holjberg, who had won a 50/50 with Luiz, before firing a low shot that was heading into the bottom corner. (GP)
Matty Cash – 5.5
Poor and naive decision to go to ground in the box against Harry Kane, that second goal finished the game from a Villa prospective. Prior to that he started the game in good form and it was pleasing to have his energy back in our side. (RM)
Ezri Konsa – 8*
My man of the match tonight, maybe his only mistake was getting too close to Vinicius for the 1st goal.
He is colossal in possession, passing and positioning. He will be wondering how he has been part of a defence that lost this game 2-0.
What a tackle at the depth to keep it at 2-0, makes the game look so easy at times and to me, he is our best centre back since Laursen and McGrath. The sky is the limit for Konsa, lets just hope our owners’ objectives and targets in this league match his. (GP)
Tryone Mings – 6
One or two timely interceptions to dispossess Harry Kane but underwhelming on the whole. Part of a defence that collectively gifted Spurs their first goal. (LM)
Matt Targett – 7
Did his job very well – that’s something we now take for granted from a player which most fans wanted replacing at the start of the season, he’s been superb throughout. (JH)
Douglas Luiz – 6
He huffs and puffs but at the moment he’s looking more like the pre lockdown Luiz from last season than the post lockdown version, hopefully, he like others can quickly get his form back. (JH)
John McGinn – 5
In the deeper ‘6’ role alongside Luiz , one that I’m not keen on seeing him play. Had another poor night which was highlighted by his lack of quality on the ball – never stopped running which is a standard but his role in our midfield needs to be addressed to start getting the best of McGinn’s attributes. (RM)
Morgan Sanson – 5
Second start for Sanson but possibly the worst I’ve seen of him in the first half. Very slow on getting the ball moving. Passing a corner short to Traore who played a poor cross into the box less than 30 seconds earlier couldn’t beat the first man from a corner summed up his 1st half.
Second half he was much improved. Moved the ball quicker but more importantly, he started to find space. Great run before being found by McGinn then produced a cut back for Trezeguet who had his shot blocked. Replaced by Barkley.
Still needs games in this league to get up to speed but the potential is there. For me, he doesn’t start ahead of Barkley vs Fulham. (GP)
Bertrand Traore – 6
He’s quickly becoming a luxury player who when it clicks looks world-class, but we are seeing the other side too often at the moment, things just aren’t happening for him. (JH)
Trezeguet – 6
Plenty of industry as ever but any genuine end product was severely lacking, which was symptomatic of the team as a whole. Failed to connect well with a second-half effort inside the penalty area which was comfortably blocked. Made way on 78 for Keinan Davis.(LM)
Ollie Watkins – 5
Peripheral figure in this game, not helped by a lack of quality service. Failed to shine in comparison to his esteemed international colleague Harry Kane. (LM)

Anwar El Ghazi on for Traore (60th minute) – 5
Played out of form eariler in the season and is now struggling to gain any momentum. (RM)
Ross Barkley on for Sanson (65th minute) – 5
Had a rare sight at goal, but his shot was blocked by Tanganga. (RM)
Keinan Davis on for Trezeguet (78th minute) – 5
Put himself around a bit. (RM)
