11th consecutive Premier League victories at Villa Park!!

Let’s hear the fans’ post-match thoughts about the players’ individual performances.

Contributions from: Ryan Mckeown, Gary Plaza, and, Ivan McDouall.

EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ – 8

“Little he could do to prevent Bowen’s deflected goal – the Argentine seeing it late after a big deflection off Pau Torres”.

“Exemplary in all other aspects of his game; especially his distribution”.

Contribution from: Ryan Mckeown

MATTY CASH – 8

“Great performance all round today, whilst also offering an attacking threat throughout”.

“Antonio is a handful, and if that wasn’t enough, it was followed by Kudus. Cash had his critics at the start of the season, with some using him as the next scapegoat, but I wouldn’t swap him for any other PL right back right now.”

PAU TORRES – 8

“Defended well throughout against the awkward Antonio – growing nicely into Premier League football”.

Contribution from: Ryan Mckeown

EZRI KONSA – 10

“You’d struggle to see a better centre half performance than this across the season for any team. Just excelling week after week and cements his position as, along with Luiz, Villa’s MVP. Solidity combined with leadership, confident on the ball even under pressure and even won a penalty. Just, wow”.

Contribution from: Ivan McDouall.

LUCAS DIGNE – 8

Played a more defensive role today, which was expected when up against Bowen. Still managed to support Zaniolo and put in some decent deliveries“.

“Really strong all game, Bowen had very few opportunities to get into dangerous positions”.

“We panicked, knowing Moreno was out for an extended period, but we now have the Lucas Digne we all thought we were getting when he signed”.

DOUGLAS LUIZ – 10

“The other half of Villa’s MVP pair along with Konsa. Two more goals and ran the show. Even a couple of sloppy passes can’t detract from a maximum rating. Amazing to think that a year ago he was largely deemed surplus to requirements by Gerrard. The former manager naively deemed him a defensive pivot and nothing more but week in week out he grows and thrives in so many diverse ways. At risk of repeating myself, just, wow”.

Contribution from: Ivan McDouall.

BOUBACAR KAMARA – 8.5

“Dropped deep as a third centre half at times especially in the first half, but was absolutely back to his best after a mixed outing at Wolves. The absolute epitome of calm but dogged alongside it – can mix it up with the best of them but then glides away. A year on from Gerrard, Bouba is certainly the one thing we can genuinely thank the former manager for”.

Contribution from: Ivan McDouall.

JOHN MCGINN – 9

“More central today helping Luiz and Kamara pack out the midfield”.

“The only way to describe his drive and press today was fantastic. Chased every tackle and looked to get forward at every opportunity”.

Brilliantly pounced on a poor West Ham touch, then provided a sublime through ball for Ollie to hit our third.”

Contribution from: Gary Plaza

NICOLÒ ZANIOLO – 7

“I was so happy to see Zaniolo in the line-up following recent articles in the Italian press. It shows that we as a club are happy with his explanation and that he is here to stay”.

The trust shown in him paid off as his work-rate was brilliant“.

There are more things to come, and a first goal isn’t too far away”.

Bailey 76′ – Amazing display by Bailey topped off with a simply brilliant finish. Sent his man for a hotdog before placing the ball in the corner. A start against AZ midweek will follow, and this will set the tone for him – 8

MOUSSA DIABY – 7.5

“Rating players can be a thing of extremes and Diaby had some wonderful moments especially when able to use his searing pace. Ironically Villa don’t always play to that strength. Sometimes seemed almost ‘too unselfish’ when looking to set up others. 7.5 is just reflective of some of the levels around him rather than any concern”.

Tielemans 85′ – No sign of his well documented frustrations coming to an end with just 5 minutes or so to make an impression. Did assist Bailey for the final goal – N/A

Contribution from: Ivan McDouall.

OLLIE WATKINS – 9.5

“What an incredible to finish (in front of The Holte End) to nullify West Ham’s second-half momentum, and put Villa 3-1 up. Missed an easier chance in the first-half but Ollie no longer dwells on missed opportunities, he hunts down the next one!”

Contribution from: Ryan Mckeown

Emery added:

“I have to be very demanding with each player. Watkins is very committed with his work every day, practicing trying to improve. “He wants every day to do analysis and to add more work on the pitch every day. That’s the mentality I want.”
