Aston Villa Formation 4-1-2-3

Emi Martinez – 8

Another solid and reliable performance between the sticks. Made an important save in the first half to deny an equaliser for Tyler Roberts. Played through a tight groin and his injury time leap to claim the ball to near enough secure the 3 points summed up his tenure so far at Villa. (LC)

Ahmed Elmohamady – 8

Don’t think there was one fan pre-match who wasn’t worried about Elmo up against Raphinha, but the Egyptian used all his experience to nullify the Brazilians attacking threat! Great improvement from last weekend‘s performance! (RM)

Ezri Konsa – 9

Threw his body in the way of a couple of Leeds shots in the first half. Calm and confident in tight areas on the ball. Another top performance in front of the onlooking Gareth Southgate, an England call up beckons. (LC)

Tyrone Mings – 8.5

Another colossal performance from the stand in skipper, yet another clean sheet and now for me a starter for England in the summer. (JH)

Matt Targett – 10

Solid performance from our left-back but we know what we get each week from matty Kept the Leeds wingers quiet all game & got stuck into tackles and was good going forward linking up well with el ghazi. Our most improved player from last season. Not long before he will be knocking on Southgate’s door and looking for a place in that England team! Superb performance! (AM)

John McGinn – 8.5

The only midfielder to survive from the Leicester game, and it was the right call. Back to his busy industrious best, chased everything and never stopped running, great to see him getting his form back. (JH)

Marvelous Nakamba – 10 (POLL VOTED MOTM)

After our loss last week against Leicester we all could see we needed fresh legs and a mix up against a very good and energetic Leeds side. Marvelous for me was outstanding today & give us that extra protection in the middle and didn’t put a foot wrong broke up play well and just did the simple things bang on. Didn’t lose the ball and just an all-round quality performance that’s two starts & two wins now marvelous deserves to keep his place in the team for the Sheff Utd game midweek quality all-round performance! (AM)

Jacob Ramsey – 9

What a talent! Showcased his immense potential with a composed performance in a box-to-box display. He backed up his cameo performance against Leicester as he thrived in the centre of the park. Dean Smith has integrated him slowly into the first team set up, but there is a massive belief in the youngster – trusting him to start away games against Wolves and Leeds and also allowing Conor to go out on-loan. Exciting times ahead! (RM)

Anwar El Ghazi – 8.5

Anwar Elgoalsie – first half an hour it was like him vs Leeds, scored a great goal and then went on a one man mission to put the game to bed. Continues to show us how important it is to have a good squad, let’s hope this is the start of another purple patch. (JH)

Bertrand Traore – 6.5

Not so many chances or attacking opportunities in the final third. However ran his socks off for the team and put it in a very good defensive shift, which has been part of his game that has been criticised by many, but didn’t put much of a foot wrong today. (LC)

Ollie Watkins – 10

Impressive from Watkins today didn’t get on the score sheet but his all-round performance hold up play running the channels was superb. Had a good battle against Llorente and worked his socks off all game not many chances but just led the line superbly on his own another one who Southgate will be looking at with his work rate and attitude what a bargain as well for 28m. (AM)
