STARTING LINE-UP

Sian Rogers – 7.5

Sian had quite a quiet afternoon in the Villa goal, but was ready when needed to keep her clean sheet in fact.

Also offered a pressure release, spreading the ball well across the defence.

Sarah Mayling – 7

A quiet game by Sarah Mayling’s high standards.

She did however assist the opening goal for Laura Blindkilde in the opening minute.

Anita Asante – 7

Played the first 45 minutes of the game. Anita always offers so much experience and calmness at the back, even in those terrible and testing conditions.

Meaghan Sargeant – 7.5

You can always count on Meaghan, she will forever give it her all and defend the back line. Today her passing was on point to get Villa on the counter attack.

Maz Pacheco – 8.5

Pacheco was a woman on a mission, pure determination getting Villa forward while offering Sunderland no route past.

Skill school was in session once again with Maz on the ball.

Laura Blindkilde – 9.5

You have to really take a moment to look at Laura and her form. Already picking up a POTM vote in Continental Cup, she also added her first goal.

A real rising star as she played a different position to what she played against Sheffield United in the previous cup game.

Remi Allen – 8.5

Our “Little Biggest” warrior on the pitch, always wears her heart on the sleeve and a burning badge on shirt.

Scored twice as well, her second goal nearly tore the net in two…… ok, ok, it trickled in. Haha.

Ruesha Littlejohn – 7.5

Ruesha worked really hard in the middle of the pitch to combine defence to attack. Also picked up a yellow card in first half so had to be careful in such difficult conditions.

Ramona Petzelberger – 9.5

We are a different team when Petzelberger is on the pitch, no matter where she plays she is just pure class on and off the ball. She works so hard to get Villa forward.

Deserved her goal and much more, a real midfield dynamo.

Alisha Lehmann – 9.5

You can never fault Lehmann’s effort to the cause.

She was filthy from head to toe by the end of the game. Sunderland tried everything to stop her scoring, but she wouldn’t be denied today, she kept going and scored a brace.

Emily Gielnik – 7.5

Emily would of no doubt been in shock to return from international duty and be faced with the conditions in Sunderland – slight difference from New Zealand!

More minutes for Gielnik as she looks to return to full fitness.

Substitutions

Chloe Arthur – 8.5 (On for Anita Asante 45)

Chloe Arthur is always pure class on and off the ball, and on and off the pitch as well. So good at things you don’t see or read about. Doesn’t always get the plaudits she truly deserves.

Marisa Ewers – 7.5 (On for Rueshea Littejohn 45)

We are still so happy to see Marisa back on the pitch for us and back in the team as our captain and our engine. Played CB giving Sunderland no space to work with.

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah – 8.5 (On for Emily Gielnik 45)

An assist and a goal for Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, from the second she steps on pitch it’s fire. We are lucky to have her in our team that’s for sure!

Gemma Davison – 8 (On for Ramona Petzelberger 46)

The best I have seen from Davison for us in the Claret and Blue. Ended up with two assists and helped to link up with the attackers in the second half of the game.

Jodie Hutton – 7 (On for Laura Blindkilde 78)

One thing Jodie Hutton doesn’t do is waste her minutes on the pitch, she didn’t have many but she always makes an impact!

Sunderland – 10

Obviously this is an extra one but as people, fans and a young team in the elements they were a massive credit to the city and their club.
