REVIEW
A more conservative and structured performance this week from Aston Villa compared to the expansive display we witnessed against Crystal Palace Which is expected playing away from home, especially at Stamford Bridge, where we’ve enjoyed minimal success in recent Premier League history.
Notable stat changes were the reduced number of passes in our build-up from defence; Pau Torres, for example, attempted 50 passes compared to the 125 against Crystal Palace.
Lucas Digne was a mixed bag of good attacking contributions, but the stats also revealed how Chelsea got in behind defensively (Digne getting dribbled past on average of 50% per attempt).
In midfield, Luiz was again pulling the strings with top stats for most touches, carriers, progressive passes, and recoveries. McGinn’s struggles to fully influence himself in recent games continued, including recording one of the lowest touch maps and successful pass percentage completions.
Creatively, Zaniolo attempted the most take-ons and carriers into the penalty area. While Oliie Watkins ended his goal drought by scoring the winner goal from an xG of just 0.2.
