PREMATCH THOUGHTS | Manchester City Away.

share

Author

As I wait for the 10.01 train from Birmingham New Street to Manchester Piccadilly, I thought I’d share some of my prematch thoughts.

Destination: Eithad. Where we’ve not collected a single point since 2007, suffering eleven straight defeats and we’re playing in our third kit! Despite that I’m feeling optimistic, we’re due one!

The eyes of the footballing world will be on us today, and the red-half of Merseyside will be praying we can pull off a shock result. But for me, I want this result for Aston Villa.

In June 2009, Gareth Barry, Captain of Aston Villa signed for Manchester City, the following year influential midfielder James Milner was lured away, a transfer that resulted in Martin O’Neill walking away from the club days before the opening fixture. Another Captain, Fabian Delph; months after signing a new deal and stating his love for the club left for City, then boyhood Villa fan and Captain Jack Grealish had his release clause activated and signed for £100 million last summer.

In return, we got flung the odd unwanted bone, first up was controversial shisha smoking Steven Ireland, then in-pocket tweeter Joleon Lescott joined, and finally, injury-prone Micah Richards who saw out 3 of his 4 years stay on the sidelines. Great!

For far too long we’ve been exploited by City, squad morale decapitated by the stripping of our Captains, and baited by those home fans on every passing Etihad defeat. Well today it changes, I want revenge, I want us to stand up and fight, What would be better than for us to deny them the title on their home patch on the final day! Let’s do it Villa!

Right, I’m off to get drunk and sing “Villa till I die” all day! Enjoy the game Villans!
