After the relative highs of last week, normal service has resumed as my FPL week returned to being awful.

Let’s find out how I got on in this week’s FPL Diaries!

TEAM NEWS

There was just one change from last week’s successful round. With the reports that Luca Digne was close to a move away, it only made sense to replace him just in case. Taking Digne’s place was Tottenham’s Emerson Royal.

My first mistake this week was my choice of captain. Erling Haaland was the obvious choice last week against a weaker Burnley team but with him facing the solid Newcastle defence, a change was needed. The only problem was, I didn’t realise this until after the gameweek started. So, had I realised, I would have captained Salah who ended up accumulating 5 points.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Let’s start with the good things about last week! Aaron Ramsdale kept a clean sheet and earned me five valuable points but this weeks stand out performer came from the league leaders Brighton. Defender Pervis Estupinan grabbed a goal, an assist and earned a bonus point tallying his points total to 11.

Now with the bad, pretty much everything else. Six of my starting eleven picked up two or less points. That number would have been one more had I not captained Haaland. Joao Pedro in particular had a poor FPL gameweek as he came on as a sub and got booked meaning he picked up 0 points.

THE BEST OF THE REST

The best goalkeeper of the gameweek was Tottenham’s new goalie who kept a clean sheet and made 6 saves. Estupinan was the best scoring defender closely followed by Villa’s Digne, who I had just subbed out of the team. Excellent.

Brentford were the team that arguably performed the best in terms of game weeks as Wissa and Mbuemo both impressed. Brighton’s March and Mitoma join Estupinan as they reached 12 and 15 points respectively.

OVERALL REVIEW

It wasn’t the worst gameweek in the world for my team however it does feel underwhelming compared to last week. Ultimately, it’s left me sixth in the FPL Diaries league and has taught me some valuable lessons. Mainly, to check the captain before the gameweek starts!
