LATE CHANGES

There were a few changes that I was forced to make before GW1 officially started this weekend. I swapped Villa’s Matty Cash for Wolverhampton’s Doherty. Doherty could only make the bench as I replaced him with Lucas Digne.

The only other change was in attack as Nkunku’s injury meant he was a massive doubt. Therefore, I swapped the Frenchman for Newcastle’s star-man Isak. The change worked well, albeit at Villa’s expense.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

It was a very strange week in FPL land for me. It was strange because I actually did well! I mean, I even topped the table, even if it was only for a day. My best player was, without a doubt, a lot of people’s best player. The Norwegian God that is Erling Haaland.

The clinical striker’s brace earned him 13 points, however he was my captain so that tally was doubled. This would have been slightly more significant if every other FPL player in the world hadn’t captained Haaland.

My worst player, was unfortunately a Villa player. This is hardly surprising considering we got battered mercilessly by Newcastle. Luca Digne picked up an abysmal -1 points as he was docked 2 points for conceding five goals and a further point for being booked. This rendered his two points for completing ninety minutes useless.

THE BEST OF THE REST

Bernd Leno was this weeks best performing goalkeeper with a massive 12 points. He managed 2 points for completing ninety minutes, 4 points for a clean sheet, 3 points for making nine saves and 3 bonus points. Hopefully Emi Martinez has a similar points tally this weekend.

Raphael Varane’s points tally was also noticeable this week. The United defender notched up 6 points for a goal, and 4 for a clean sheet. All that combined lead to a huge 14 points for the multi time Champions League winner.

Man City’s Rodri was a surprise candidate for one of the best performing midfielders. The Spanish stalwart scored the third of City’s goals against Burnley which lead to an impressive 13 points haul.

OVERALL REVIEW

It was a very good week for me, as I finished 3rd in the FPL Diaires league, just one point behind joint first. Only one player in minus digits and two players in double digits is quite impressive by my standards. For that reason, I’d give my FPL week a 9/10!
